Tennessee proposal would make intentional disruption of worship services a crime

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WZTV) — A Tennessee lawmaker has introduced legislation that would create a specific state crime for intentionally disrupting religious worship services.

Rep. Greg Martin, R-Hixson, filed House Bill 2264, which would make it a misdemeanor to deliberately interfere with lawful religious services or activities inside places of worship.

Under the proposal, conduct such as trespassing, disruptive demonstrations, or other intentional actions that disturb or obstruct the order of a religious gathering could be charged as a Class B misdemeanor. The offense would be punishable by up to six months in jail and a fine of up to $500…
