No heat, leaking pipes, old roofs: SUNY chancellor says $10B in repairs needed

ALBANY – The State University of New York’s campuses desperately need repairs. There’s a $10 billion backlog in “critical maintenance” projects, Chancellor John King Jr. said.

Speaking at a Times Union Editorial Board meeting Thursday, King said SUNY stopped making five-year capital plans during the 2009 financial crisis.

He wants the state to return to committing to hundreds of millions of dollars in funding each year for five years. That would allow him to plan when to address critical needs, including old roofs, leaking pipes and dying HVAC systems…
