Newark Man Charged with Drug and Firearm Offenses Following Wilmington “VIP Smoke Shop” Raid

Wilmington police have charged a Newark man following an investigation into illegal marijuana sales, as reported by Nixle. The business in question, “VIP Smoke Shop” located in the 900 block of Maryland Avenue, became the focal point of a month-long probe carried out by the Drug, Organized Crime, and Vice Division.

On January 16th, law enforcement executed a search warrant at the shop at around 10:00 a.m., resulting in the arrest of 53-year-old Ali Ahmed without incident. According to the Wilmington police statement, the officers seized a loaded .9mm handgun, 4,630 grams of marijuana and related products, and $670 in cash during the raid.

Ali Ahmed now faces multiple charges, including Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony, Possession of a Firearm by a Person Prohibited, Possession of a Controlled Substance with the Intent to Deliver- Tier 2, as well as Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
