Death penalty hearing continued for Southport shooting suspect

SOUTHPORT, N.C. (WECT) – The suspect in the September mass shooting that happened in Southport appeared in court for a hearing on Friday morning.

Nigel Edge was arrested on Sept. 28, 2025, for the shooting at American Fish Company that resulted in three deaths and multiple injuries.

He was indicted in January for the following charges:

  • Three counts of first-degree murder
  • Discharging a firearm into an occupied property
  • Two counts of attempted first-degree murder
  • Two counts of assault with a deadly weapon with the intent to kill or inflict serious injury
