Sunbury, Pa. — A Massachusetts pair accused of releasing hundreds of mink from a Northumberland County fur farm will go to trial in May, according to Northumberland County District Attorney Mike O’Donnell.
Cara Mitrano, 28, and Celeste Legere, aka Christopher, 30, both of Worcester, face close to a dozen charges for allegedly breaking into the Stahl Mink Farms, Inc. in Rockefeller Township on Oct. 19, 2024. Though the state has dropped some charges, including felony counts of ecoterrorism, both Mitrano and Legere still face multiple felonies and misdemeanors of animal cruelty.
Prosecutors accuse the pair of having released more than 600 mink in order to free them from being killed for their fur. Though most of the mink were recovered, an unknown number of mink died in the wild as they were not equipped to survive in the uncontrolled environment…
