No more money: Rensselaer County stops paying child care subsidies

TROY — At Hope 7, the after-school program is slowly diminishing as child after child drops out.

They are among the dozens of local children who have recently lost their child care as Rensselaer County slowly runs out of money to help pay for it. The county provides a subsidy for each child whose household income qualifies them for child care assistance.

“I began losing students in December,” said Holly Cargill-Cramer, interim executive director of the Troy-based organization. “A little over half the kids I have are subsidized. By the end of February, I will have lost almost all of the subsidized children.”…
