MECKLENBURG COUNTY, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — The Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office announced the launch of its new traffic unit, which focuses on traffic enforcement and crash investigations throughout the county.
The MCSO Traffic Unit was first established in October of 2024. On January 2, 2026, they were approved to use the Traffic Records and Crash System (TraCS), which is used by law enforcement to document crash data. The deputies are now able to complete crash investigations and report on-site, which reduces call response times.
As of Friday, Feb. 6, the unit has completed five crash investigations, the sheriff’s office said.
“Creating a dedicated traffic unit allows us to better serve our community and our lawenforcement partners,” said Sheriff Garry McFadden. “Our deputies already respond totraffic incidents daily, but this specialized unit will ensure we have trained, equippedpersonnel dedicated to keeping our roadways safer, responding faster when crashes occur, and supporting crime-reduction efforts. I anticipate the MCSO traffic team will continue togrow as this initiative evolves.”…
