FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) — Veterans were able to receive free health screenings and assistance with taxes, among other useful services at an event hosted by the American Legion Post 148.
Veterans and their families were encouraged to take advantage of the free services and come out to the post on Saturday afternoon until 6 p.m. Several informational resources for homeless veterans were offered as well.
“Well, veterans, they need the help to get them through whatever life afflictions they’re going through,” said Joseph Ayers, the resource officer for Post 148. “These organizations come together to make sure that we’re able to help veterans that are in need of help. Because a lot of the time, veterans, they don’t know where to go to get the help. So we’ve got to go to the veterans to help them.”…
