First Coast faces continued fire risk after red flag warning issued Friday afternoon

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The wildfire danger remains high across the First Coast as dry and windy conditions push fire risks to critical levels.

A Red Flag Warning was in effect until Friday afternoon for parts of Northeast Florida and Southeast Georgia, according to the National Weather Service in Jacksonville. Forecasters say another warning could be issued this weekend as humidity stays low and winds continue to pick up.

Jacksonville Fire and Rescue crews responded earlier in the day to a small wildfire in the median of Interstate 295 near Lem Turner Road. The fire charred sections of grass but did not injure anyone or damage nearby property. Officials say traffic delays and light smoke were the only impacts…
