If you missed the announcement on the Jim & Lisa show recently about this, not to worry, there’s still time to get your tickets to see one of the most prolific songwriters in Nashville over the last couple of decades. Jamey Johnson is bringing The Last Honkey Tonk Tour to Choctaw Landing Casino & Resort in Hochatown, Oklahoma, on March 21, 2026.
How Does Texarkana Know Jamey?
Jamey is most likely best known for his singles “In Color” and “High Cost of Living”, but he’s had his writing talents stamped on many songs for other artists throughout the years. One of the biggest was on the George Strait album titled It Just Comes Natural, where Jamey penned the song “Give It Away,” which became Strait’s 41st #1 hit in 2006.
Invited to join the Grand Ole Opry in 2022, Jamey has had 11 Grammy nominations over the years, but has never won one, which is a travesty. Especially when it comes to the song “In Color”, which received two Grammy noms and, in my personal opinion, is one of the best story songs ever written. It did win Song of the Year honors at both the ACM and CMA Awards in 2009.
If you’re not familiar, take a listen:
Jamey seems to have embraced an Outlaw Country style from his early days growing up in Alabama, and still going strong with his latest album release in 2024…
