Elk Grove Animal Shelter pauses dog intake due to virus spread

(FOX40.COM) — Elk Grove Animal Shelter is temporarily pausing all dog adoptions and healthy-dog intakes due to concerns of the spread of an upper respiratory illness.

Shelter representatives in a press release said they will be limiting dog intakes through Feb. 17 due to an outbreak of pneumovirus within the shelter’s dog population, “out of an abundance of caution.” The virus is described as highly contagious.

The shelter will still accept stray dogs that are severely sick, severely injured or “aggressive and require immediate intervention,” they said…
