Officials respond to what went wrong at Gore Mountain on Wednesday

GORE MOUNTAIN, N.Y. (NEWS10) — Officials at Gore Mountain are explaining what went wrong after dozens of skiers and snowboarders were left stranded in a gondola mid-air on Wednesday. News10’s Amber Fisher spoke with the general manager about the incident, and the response from riders.

“Our mechanics were on the scene pretty quickly and tried to make a repair without having to evacuate people. They weren’t able to do so, so we made the call to manually evacuate people from the gondola,” explained Bone Bayse, the General Manager at Gore Mountain.

Bayse said that the evacuation took about four hours, with about 20 cabins stuck on the line. Officials say a broken bolt threw the gondola out of alignment, which triggered a safety shutdown. “There was an X Y Bolt that broke that through the wheel assembly out of alignment.” said Bayse…
