A Milwaukee man, Samuel Dickerson, was sentenced to life in prison on Friday for the March 16, 2025, killing of a man on the city’s north side near Holton and Center. The case relied on surveillance video and a discarded GPS monitor that tied him to the crime.
Dickerson, 29, pleaded guilty to first-degree intentional homicide in January, with prosecutors dismissing additional weapon and firearm charges as part of the plea deal. He is eligible for extended supervision after serving 30 years, ending a prosecution supported by both physical evidence and video footage, according to FOX6 Milwaukee.
Where the shooting happened
Milwaukee police say officers were called to the 2700 block of N. Holton St. shortly before 8 p.m. on March 16, 2025, where they found a man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was taken to Froedtert Hospital and later pronounced dead, according to the Milwaukee Police Department. At the time, investigators asked anyone with information to contact (414) 935-7360 or Crime Stoppers at (414) 224-TIPS.
How investigators say he was tracked down
Prosecutors built their case around a criminal complaint that detectives assembled from surveillance and physical evidence. Investigators recovered four spent 9mm casings and, according to the complaint, video appears to show the shooter draw a handgun and fire several times, FOX6 Milwaukee reports. The complaint states that Dickerson cut off his Department of Corrections GPS bracelet after the shooting, and detectives later found the device tossed in a trash can inside a donut shop. A tip to Madison police then pointed officers to a Chicago-bound bus, where an officer who boarded the coach found Dickerson trying to obscure his face. He was arrested without incident, and a 9mm handgun was found on his person, according to the report.
