MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. — LaTasha Thomas, 39, received a 12-month prison sentence followed by a year of supervised release for mail fraud and must also repay $325,159 to the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
U.S. Attorney Daniel N. Rosen says Thomas, along with her daughter Ambrosia Thomas and relative Cynthia Thomas, orchestrated a scheme to defraud the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). They illegally acquired Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) cards using fake Minnesota temporary drivers’ licenses and false claims of high-risk pregnancies.
Court documents state the Thomases submitted fraudulent applications to Hennepin County, directing EBT cards to Cynthia Thomas’s Roseville apartment. Law enforcement found evidence of the scheme at this location…
