‘About as cold as it gets’: extreme cold warning issued for Capital Region, Hudson Valley

ALBANY — An extreme cold warning has been issued for the Capital Region and Hudson Valley as frigid temperatures and high winds have hit the area.

Early Saturday, the National Weather Service released an extreme cold warning in effect from noon Saturday through 1 p.m. on Sunday for all of eastern New York and the greater Capital Region.

“This is about as cold as it gets in the Capital Region,” said Tom Wasula, lead meteorologist at the NWS in Albany. “We’re expecting dangerously cold wind chills as low as 20 to 30 degrees below zero. With the winds gusting right now, they’re gusting as high as 40 to 50 mph.”…
