Internationally known designer, artist and muralist Boyce McKinney of Stanley is preparing to paint his next mural this spring in Belmont in celebration of the 250th anniversary of America’s Declaration of Independence. A campaign is under way to raise $20,000 to fund the project and unveil the new mural by July 4. The 8-by-20-foot mural will honor Major William Chronicle and the South Fork Boys militia he led into battle in Kings Mountain during the American Revolution in 1780. It’s to be painted on the north wall of a building occupied by East Coast Acquisition at 140 North Main Street in downtown Belmont. Belmont Rotary Club member Dick Cromlish owns the building, and he arranged for McKinney to speak about his life’s work and next project at a recent club meeting.
