Since Riverside Smithfield Hospital opened, Isle of Wight and Surry counties have seen a measurable improvement in ambulance transport times.
One week prior to Riverside Smithfield’s opening, it was taking an average of 25 to 35 minutes for Isle of Wight’s ambulances to transport a patient to the nearest emergency room, Isle of Wight Volunteer Rescue Squad Chief Brian Carroll said.
By Feb. 2, that travel time had been roughly halved to 12 to 15 minutes, which can make all the difference in a life-or-death emergency…
