Syracuse, N.Y. — Bitter cold in Syracuse over the weekend forced people experiencing homelessness to make hard choices: find a warm place indoors or try to survive outside as temperatures plunged to dangerous levels.
More than 30 people were found outside this weekend in Syracuse but only about five of those people decided to go to shelters or warming stations, according to John Tumino, executive director of In My Father’s Kitchen, a group that helps the homeless. The rest stayed outdoors or sought temporary places to stay, he said.
