Green Bay gives ‘clarification’ after citing Safe Haven for sheltering homeless overnight

GREEN BAY (WLUK) — After a local cat sanctuary received a citation for allowing homeless community members to take shelter overnight in the business during recent cold weather, the City of Green Bay says it’s offering more context about the situation.

FOX 11 first reported about Safe Haven opening its doors to support those needing a place to stay warm in late January. The business stressed that the policy wouldn’t be a permanent option, but it was something it was willing to do to help community members in need during arctic temperatures.

Friday, Safe Haven received an ordinance violation citation from the city’s community and economic development department, which said housing individuals overnight goes against the zoning code in Green Bay’s “Principal Uses for the Special Purpose District.”…
