PILSEN — After the deaths of their parents, 22-year-old Federico Alexis Alcantar took it upon himself to move his two younger siblings from Mexico to America, where Alcantar hoped to bring them a better life.
But ever since Alcantar was arrested by immigration agents last year, those closest to him don’t know when they’ll see him again. Alcantar’s supporters — including Rep. Jesus “Chuy” Garcia and Sen. Dick Durbin — are calling on his release so he can care for his orphaned siblings.
“My child will not be baptized without him,” Gilberto S. said of Alcantar, his best friend and godfather to his children. “He belongs at home.”…
