Five people were taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries amid a two-alarm house fire on Pond Street Sunday morning. The blaze left the home a total loss.
Firefighters responded to a reported house fire at 59 Pond St. at approximately 6 a.m. Sunday, interim Fire Chief Gary Smyth said. Upon arrival, crews encountered heavy fire showing from the right side of a two-and-a-half-story wood-framed dwelling. Occupants were exiting the home as firefighters arrived.
Firefighters immediately conducted a primary search while simultaneously knocking down the heavy fire. Due to the fire having gained significant headway prior to discovery, it had extended into the structural components of the building and into the attic.
