PELHAM – Leaders from Owens House met with Pelham Mayor Rick Wash on Monday, Feb. 2 as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen partnerships with local governments and ensure continued services for children and families across Shelby County.
Owens House Executive Director Catherine Alexander-Wright and Development Coordinator Mattie Cleckler visited Pelham City Hall to discuss the organization’s work, thank city leaders for their support and explore ways municipalities can continue helping the nonprofit meet growing needs amid reductions in federal funding.
“Our largest source of funding is federal pass-through money that comes through the state of Alabama, and we received a significant cut last year, followed by another 10 percent cut this year,” Alexander-Wright said. “Because of that, we’ve been reaching out to municipalities to explain what we do and how it directly impacts the children and families in their communities.”…
