NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WBTV) – South Carolina’s most powerful earthquake of 2026 struck this weekend, and nearly 1,000 people from across the state reported feeling it.
The 2.9-magnitude quake rattled the state just after 10:30 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 7. It had an epicenter about 20 miles northeast of Charleston, according to United States Geological Survey (USGS) data.
Saturday’s earthquake was only the fourth recorded in South Carolina this year. The one that was previously the state’s strongest of 2026 had a 2.3-magnitude that struck near the same area on Feb. 3. The other two had epicenters near Lugoff…
