NORFOLK, Va. — Freezing temperatures moved across Hampton Roads on Saturday, prompting health officials to warn residents about the dangers of prolonged exposure to the cold.
Wind chills dropped into the teens and single digits in some areas, increasing the risk of cold-related health complications like hypothermia and frostbite. One couple that just moved here from colder climates was surprised.
“Definitely didn’t expect it to reach this cold,” said Rachel Coyle, who moved from Minnesota to Norfolk last year. Her husband Thomas added, “Last year was our first winter here and it was a little mild; this year has been a lot worse.”…
