Expanded funding for transportation for older adults

The Regional Transportation Commission of Washoe County awarded Sanford Center for Aging’s Community Services $483,269 for a two-year period through Sept. 30, 2027.

The organization will expand existing transportation services to provide 7,800 free, individualized, door-through-door trips for adults 60 and older in the Reno/Sparks area. The service extends to areas such as Lemmon Valley and Golden Valley, the outskirts of Spanish Springs and southern Washoe County.

“Over the past year, we had meaningful growth in both reach and impact,” said Maddie Luevano, administrative assistant for Community Services at Sanford Center for Aging and primary point of contact for clients and volunteers. “The number of clients served increased by 34 percent between 2024 to 2025, total rides increased by 776, and total miles driven increased by more than 12,000 miles. These increases highlight not only growing demand but also the program’s ability to meet that demand through strong coordination, volunteer commitment and trusted relationships with the community.”…
