UNC Asheville head track & field coach dies after battle with cancer

ASHEVILLE, N.C. (FOX Carolina) – UNC Asheville is mourning the passing of head track & field coach Joel Williams.

The university said Coach Williams passed away on Saturday, Feb. 7 after a courageous battle with cancer.

“The impact that Joel made on our university extends far beyond wins, records and championships,” said Director of Athletics Janet R. Cone. “He was a man of deep character who led with humility, integrity and a genuine love for his student-athletes. Joel had a rare ability to make everyone around him better, and his presence will be profoundly missed across our campus and within the track and field community.”…
