Publix Buys Uptown Charlotte Property for $4.8M After Six Years of Leasing

Publix Super Markets snapped up a spot at 601 N. Tryon St. in uptown Charlotte. The price? $4.8 million. The deal closed Jan. 29, ending a lease that kicked off back in December 2019. The Florida grocer bought the site from 10th and Tryon Partners out of Virginia Beach, Virginia. Mecklenburg County records, filed Thursday, confirm the transaction.

The company told The Charlotte Observer about the sale but wouldn’t share more. Records show the lease got terminated the same day the purchase went through.

The Lakeland, Florida, chain wants to build a 28,000-square-foot store at the 10 Tryon building. That sits on the northwest corner where Tryon meets Ninth Street. When it opens, uptown will have three grocery stores…
