Two longtime neighborhood Jacksonville locations of Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen closed abruptly as the restaurant brand’s major South Florida franchise owner seeks Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection amid a reorganization.
The restaurants, at 1833 Kings Road near Edward Waters University and at 649 S. McDuff Ave. off Interstate 10 in the Lackawanna neighborhood, are among 17 Popeyes shutting their doors in Northeast Florida and Southeast Georgia.
The closures come as the Miami-based franchise owner, Sailormen, Inc., filed a voluntary petition Jan. 15 seeking Chapter 11 relief in the Miami division of U.S. District Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Florida…
