LMPD bans officers from moonlighting for suburb after Courier Journal report

Louisville Metro Police officers are now prohibited from moonlighting for the suburb of Worthington Hills after The Courier Journal reported on the suburb’s controversial plan to pay off-duty officers hired to patrol the community bonuses for traffic stops that resulted in citations or criminal charges.

“A proposal by the City of Worthington Hills to reward LMPD officers for taking certain law enforcement actions while working secondary employment for the City of Worthington Hills caused me grave concern,” Louisville Metro Police Chief Paul Humphrey wrote in a Sept. 2, 2025 memorandum to all LMPD personnel recently obtained by The Courier Journal under Kentucky’s open records law.

“I strongly believe that this type of practice would be harmful to the community and its citizens. Further, it would be contrary to the department’s mission statement and values,” he added…
