A new grocery store is heading to West Orange. Trader Joe’s will be opening a new location at 457 Mount Pleasant Avenue, bringing the popular grocery chain to Mount Pleasant Plaza. The store will occupy part of the plaza’s main building, converting a portion of the roughly 29,000-square-foot space into a new Trader Joe’s retail location. According to The Essex Local, the West Orange Township Planning Board voted to approve the project on Mount Pleasant Avenue during its Wednesday, February 4th meeting, moving Trader Joe’s one step closer to opening. As Essex County is currently home to just one Trader Joe’s location in Millburn, a West Orange outpost would give Montclair-area residents a much more convenient place to stock up on fan-favorite snacks, seasonal finds, and all the Trader Joe’s staples people love to try.
As part of the project, the Trader Joe’s retail store will take over the space currently occupied by the Metropolitan Plant Exchange greenhouse. That area, which spans approximately 8,980 square feet, will be removed and replaced with additional parking.
