ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — Local utilities like RG&E, NYSEG, and the National Grid are warning customers about a rise in scams.
The utilities said many of these scammers go door-to-door, contact victims through email, phone calls, or text messages, or by selling a Credit Privacy Number.

Other methods these scammers use include threats to shut off service, asking for payment when a customer’s account is current, asking for an account number or financial information, or demanding payment through wire transfer or gift cards.
