Loose Morgan Hill Horse Trots Down Roads Like It Owns The Place

Drivers in Morgan Hill got an unexpected extra commuter yesterday when a white-gray horse was spotted casually making its way along Burnett Road, then heading out onto Monterey Road near the railroad tracks. Officers eventually caught up with the equine wanderer, secured it, and arranged for a nearby resident to provide temporary shelter while they worked to track down the owner.

Officer Secured The Animal, And No Ticket For This Traveler

According to the Morgan Hill Police Department, an officer literally “took the reins” after the loose horse was seen close to the tracks at Burnett and Monterey roads. The department made it clear that no citation would be issued for the roaming animal. A neighbor who was not the horse’s owner stepped in and agreed to provide the horse with a safe place to stay while officers checked for identifying information and tried to confirm ownership.

The County of Santa Clara’s Animal Services Agency operates an Animal Services Center in San Martin that is equipped to shelter and rehabilitate large animals and has handled multi-horse rescues in the past, according to a county news release.
