SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — Two women were removed from the Syracuse Common Council meeting on Monday, Feb. 9, for interrupting the session in protest for about 13 minutes.
The women were part of a group asking common councilors to end the city’s use of license plate readers in its crime-fighting strategy, worrying the data could get shared with the federal government and used in immigration enforcement.
When it came time for the vote of interest, Councilor Jimmy Monto addressed the crowd: “…We will continue to be very careful with technology in this city, especially surveillance technology…”…
