TAMPA, Fla. – Once widely regarded as dangerous and illegal, psilocybin mushrooms are now being closely examined for their potential medical benefits, and some of that research is happening right here in Tampa.
At the University of South Florida, researchers are running multiple clinical trials studying psilocybin, the psychoactive compound commonly known as magic mushrooms, to determine whether it can safely and effectively help patients struggling with serious mental health conditions like depression, anxiety, and post-traumatic stress disorder.
