Founder of longtime Wilmington diner dies; remembered as kind and generous

The founder of one of Wilmington’s oldest businesses died on Feb. 7. James “Jimbo” Patsalos celebrated his 91st birthday in November, and the restaurant that bears his name celebrated 48 years in business in December.

He and his wife, Anna, opened Jimbo’s Breakfast & Lunch House at 1529 S. College Road long before it was on one of Wilmington’s busiest corridors. In fact, in 1977 there was a farm across the street.

“He never considered himself a legend,” said his son Nick Patsalos. “But the community is reaching out to us and telling us that Wilmington has lost a legend.”
