Case of mistaken identity causes voting issues for East Tennessee woman

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — A case of mistaken identity has followed an East Tennessee woman for years from one county to another. 6 News first reported her story when she lived in Jefferson County 14 years ago. Now, she lives in Knox County.

In 2012, Christina was unable to vote in Jefferson County. At the time, she believed the issue was resolved. Years later, the same thing happened in Knox County when she registered to vote. She asked that we not use her last name.

For over 20 years, Christina been dealing with a case of mistaken identity. She has only a first and last name, no middle name. She lives in Knoxville today, but we first met her in November 2012. She said there was a woman with a name similar to hers, but with the middle initial M, who lived in Jefferson County and had quite the police record dating to 2004.

“Apparently, she’s got off scot-free with a lot of crimes, and I’ve carried around for eight years,” Christina told 6 News in November 2012…
