AMUM presents student submissions at the opening of the Juried Student Art Exhibit

A burst of fresh perspectives filled the gallery this week as the Art Museum of the University of Memphis (AMUM) unveiled its 43rd Annual Juried Student Exhibition, showcasing standout works selected from undergraduate and graduate submissions and spotlighting the next generation of local artists.

Around 100 guests, including students and families alike, settled into the AMUM to view about 30 pieces selected by Assistant Director Adrianna Dunn and a guest juror. This year’s guest juror was Joel Parsons, art director at Rhodes College. With dozens of submissions competing for limited wall space, the final selection reflected a rather competitive application process that highlighted only a fraction of the work submitted.

“We usually get between 75 and 100 applications,” said Dunn. “So it is pretty competitive.”…
