Vegan, vegetarian-friendly MJ’s Cafe in Baton Rouge is reopening with new owner and menu. See when.

MJ’s Cafe, 5162 Government Street, is reopening in February after a temporary closure for renovations.

MJ’s Cafe originally opened in 2011 serving a plant-based menu with vegan and vegetarian options. It temporarily closed about a month and a half ago.

The cafe will reopen Feb. 18, the day after Mardi Gras, according to new owner, Stephen Hightower, a longtime Baton Rouge restaurateur. The cafe’s original owner, Maureen Joyce, will continue making her signature soups, and the same staff will remain involved, Hightower said.

“MJ’s is a living organism, no pun intended,” Hightower said. “We want to respect that and keep the same vibe. We are updating the menu with some chicken and seafood options, but we will keep the vegan and vegetarian fare MJ’s has done so well for so long.”…
