Pizza at Bistro Italia

The restaurant’s move to a new, larger location gave us a perfect reason to dine in rather than order the usual takeout.

Although we knew we were going for the pizza, the meatball marinara appetizer caught my eye. Three meatballs, slightly smaller than tennis balls, were covered in a well-seasoned marinara sauce and melted mozzarella cheese, alongside wedges of crunchy garlic bread. The bread was meant for dipping in all that extra marinara sauce on the plate — a bit of lagniappe to the scrumptious meatballs. We’ve already talked about returning just for this appetizer.

Looking for a pizza with almost everything on it (can’t stand anchovies), we went for the 16-inch pie called The Primo … and it was. The crust was thin but not overly crunchy like some tend to be, and covered with fresh mushrooms, onions, bell peppers, banana peppers, roasted red pepper, Italian sausage and pepperoni. Every bite was the perfect melding of all the fresh flavors, with the red pepper offering a little kick, which set it apart from the rest. The sauce was robust but not sweet. All in all, primo…
