Des Moines shooter sentenced to 7 years for federal firearm charge

DES MOINES, Iowa — A Des Moines man was sentenced to 7 years and three months in federal prison on Friday for illegally possessing a firearm as a drug user.

20-year-old Bryan Keith Rainey Jr. and two co-conspirators fired at least 36 rounds of ammunition at a Des Moines home in a drive-by shooting on Dec. 16, 2024, court documents presented at his sentencing showed. At the time, the house was occupied by two children and their mother.

At least 11 rounds hit the house, “with the bullets ripping through multiple walls,” court docs describe. No one was injured…
