Despite fiance’s death while helping a stranger, woman still encourages acts of kindness

TROY, Mo. — A Missouri family is in mourning this week after a Troy, Missouri, man was shot and killed in downtown St. Louis while attempting to help a stranger during freezing temperatures.

William Douglas Palmer, known to family and friends as Doug, was a father of four and a grandfather. His fiancee, Riyen Jones, described him as a dedicated family man who was simply trying to lend a hand when he was killed last weekend.
