The biggest race of all time is coming back to Sioux Falls this week, and for one night, the city is going to the dogs. Literally!
For one night only, the Sioux Falls Stampede will transform into the “Fighting Wiener Dogs” to celebrate the 19th Annual World-Famous Wiener Dog Races! The race is on!
The Wiener Dog Races are truly a beloved tradition in the Sioux Falls area. It’s a night not only to cheer on the Sioux Falls Stampede to victory, but also to highlight a great rescue in our community. Dakota Dachshund Rescue is a local non-profit that helps find dachshunds and other little pups their “fur-ever” homes. It’s a small group of foster homes and volunteers who make it their mission to give small and mighty dogs a “fighting” chance!
When Are The Big Wiener Dog Races?
The 19th Annual World-Famous Wiener Dog Races will take place this Valentine’s Day on Saturday, February 14th. Puck drops at 6:05 PM as your “Fighting Wiener Dogs” take on the Des Moines Buccaneers. Tickets purchased here for the big night will benefit Dakota Dachshund Rescue.
How Does Each Wiener Dog Race Work?
Races will take place during each intermission of the game. Here’s how the races will go:
- 1st Intermission: Two heats will compete, with the top two dogs from each heat advancing to The Championship
- 2nd Intermission: The final four wiener dogs will compete in the “Wiener Take All Championship!
