Dan Ahlers joining race for South Dakota governor

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) – A longtime South Dakota Democratic Party member is entering the race for governor.

On Monday, Dan Ahlers announced he’ll officially kick off his campaign for South Dakota governor on Tuesday at the Sioux Falls Downtown Library.

Ahlers, who has currently been working as the executive director for the South Dakota Democratic Party, is a former state lawmaker from Dell Rapids. He was the Democrats’ candidate in 2020 for one of South Dakota’s U.S. Senate seats, losing to the Republican incumbent, Mike Rounds 276,232-143,987.

“With grit and determination, I started a small business and served my community for more than 20 years,” Ahlers said in a news release. “That same grit built South Dakota. But today, too many politicians are choosing party politics over representing the people they serve. I’m running for governor to bring people together and get work done.”…
