Union College trustee resigns after being named in Epstein files

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. (NEWS10) — Brad Karp, a Union College alum and board trustee, as well as chairman of one of the country’s most prestigious law firms, has resigned from both positions after being linked to Jeffrey Epstein. Both resignations come days after the recent release of emails on the Department of Justice’s website.

When Karp’s name was released in the documents last week, both the college and the Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison LLP law firm released statements saying he never witnessed or participated in any misconduct, and he regretted all interactions with Epstein.

The college said, “The College is aware of news reports involving Brad Karp, a Union alumnus and a member of our board of trustees, and his social interactions with disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein many years ago. Mr. Karp said he never witnessed or participated in any misconduct, and has publicly expressed regret for those interactions.”

The law firm released a similar statement, saying, “As has been previously reported, Brad Karp met Jeffrey Epstein through his representation of the former Chairman and CEO of Apollo Global Management, a significant firm client. During the course of that representation, which spanned several years, Mr. Karp never witnessed or participated in any misconduct. Mr. Karp attended two group dinners in New York City and had a small number of social interactions by email, all of which he regrets.”…
