Proposed Warrick County fire department merger on the horizon

WARRICK COUNTY, Ind. (WEHT)- The Ohio Township and Chandler Fire Departments are hearing from the public as they consider a merger.

Fire officials say both departments have seen increases in call volume since 2020, but have not seen a similar increase in volunteer firefighter staff. The merger would provide fully staffed firefighters across both stations. The proposed merger would also include a property tax increase of 28 cents through 2031.

Fire officials say the merger would not only be more efficient but would also help provide more services to Warrick County residents. Two additional public meetings will be held on the proposed merger on March 2.

  • Chandler Township Event Center: 3433 Libbert Road, Newburgh, IN, at 3:00 p.m.
  • Chandler Town Hall: 401 E. Lincoln Avenue, Chandler, IN, at 7:00 p.m.

Following the public hearings, the Ohio Township Board and Chandler Town Council will meet at 7 p.m. on Monday, March 16, at the Chandler Town Hall to vote to adopt, reject, or table the ordinance…
