GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — The crew of the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Mackinaw responded to a stuck freighter last week in the Straits of Mackinac.
The Coast Guard says the cutter was dispatched out Wednesday after a Canadian freighter got stuck in ice. UpNorthLive reports the freighter was the Algoma Niagara, a 226-foot cargo ship.
“Our crew skillfully maneuvered the Mackinaw to break a path around the beset vessel, freeing it from the ice and allowing it to safely continue its journey,” the Coast Guard said in a social media post…
