‘Protect the MoonPie’ movement gains momentum in Mobile

MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — Countless MoonPies will not survive after being thrown, and a new group in Mobile, Protect The MoonPie, is hoping to stop this.

“We really have to rally together as a community and protect the thing that we love. And that’s MoonPies,” said Theresa Webb with Protect The MoonPie.

Webb says that if a MoonPie is not caught, it hits the ground and is either stomped on or rolled over. The group is frequently seen at parades in Downtown Mobile along Route A, wearing neon yellow vests and holding signs that say, “Respect the Throw” and “High MoonPie Loss Area.”

Protect The MoonPie started an Instagram and website to protect future marshmallow-filled sandwiches, which have already attracted hundreds of supporters from Mobile to across the bay.
