Ventura works to protect the Santa Clara River Estuary

VENTURA, Calif. — For years, the City of Ventura discharged over 7 million gallons of effluent or treated wastewater into the Santa Clara River Estuary each day.

“Effluent is really high in nutrients, and so when the city of Ventura was releasing the effluent discharge into the estuary, it was having horrible water quality impacts,” said Candice Meneghin, board member with the Friends of the Santa Clara River local nonprofit.
