Deadly wrong-way crash closes I-10 East for hours before reopening near downtown Houston

HOUSTON — All inbound lanes of the East Freeway were shut down early Tuesday morning following a deadly wrong-way crash that happened just before 1:30 a.m., according to the Houston Police Department.

More than four hours after the crash, the freeway remained closed as debris was scattered across the main lanes near the scene. All inbound lanes reopened around 6:15 a.m. after investigators cleared the roadway.

According to the HPD, a driver was traveling the wrong way at a very high speed on inbound I-10 when the vehicle slammed head-on into another car that was traveling in the correct direction, turning the collision deadly…
