Chicagoland celebrates as St. Viator alum wins Olympic gold

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. (WGN) — After Danny O’Shea helped deliver Team USA a clutch point on the way to Olympic gold in team figure skating, Chicagoland is celebrating the St. Viator alum’s success on the international stage.

“He was very determined, very genuine, and one of the kindest people you ever would’ve met,” said Fr. John Eustice, remembering the St. Viator alum long before he captured Olympic Gold. “I was here when he transferred in his junior year and his mom was so excited, as was he, because we were able to adapt our schedule to his training schedule.”

O’Shea, a 2009 graduate of St. Viator High School, took to the ice on Sunday night with his skating partner, Ellie Kam, during the home stretch of a grueling three-day competition to decide the world’s best figure skating team.
